52 East 4th Street was one of the first new-construction, residential high-rise buildings in the NOHO section of New York, (NOrth of HOuston), rising high above the historic brick facades of the Bowery. This part of New York was historically a down-on-its-luck district and certainly not a part of town to live in. In recent years, restaurants, hotels, museums and retail stores have recognized this part of the city as an undiscovered gem. The marketing materials for this building embraced the Bowery’s gritty toughness, utilizing graffiti as street art and contrasting it with the modern lines of the buildings architecture.
